‚ÄčICPC Disaster Response Team - Tornadoes - April 2014

Posted by BartLeger (Admins) at Apr 28 2014, 04:57 PM. 0 comments

Good evening,

Just a quick update on today's storm events. Quapaw, OK ( out of Joplin) hit by tornado with reported 2 fatalities, Baxter Springs, KS, extensive damage, an 11 month old died today from the North Carolina tornado on Friday, tornadoes still in Missouri, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Flooding in many states.

My heart is so heavy this evening as my Arkansas has been hit so hard with tornadoes. We have had one tornadic supercell on the ground for over 3 hours. It has been reported to be from 1/2 to 3/4 miles wide. It started in my county and has traveled through seven counties. Many small towns with extensive damage, many fatalities being reported so far, many casualties. Many search and rescue teams, law enforcement, AR Game and Fish, OEM, EMS on scenes. Many areas have not been checked and the tornadoes are now headed toward the Jonesboro area. Mass casualties in the Valonia area, requesting ambulances for help on television. I will keep you posted. We have local chaplains on scene, I will be going to the area as soon as I can get in, I-40 closed. More large storms coming later tonight.

Please do not self deploy to this area. Power lines are down everywhere along with gas leaks.

Please pray for all of these areas. I will keep you updated as help is needed. Please keep me informed if you have information on other areas with damage as the night unfolds and the storms continue for the next few days.

Hi President Hargrove,

We were wondering if you or a representative will be attending the Police Week activities in Washington, DC this year? You will receive a letter next week announcing that the International Conference of Police Chaplains will be recognized at the National Law Enforcement Prayer Breakfast & Blessing of the Badge ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Building on May 15th at 8:00 a.m. The event is hosted by NOBLE and we chose ICPC because of the unselfish contributions the organization has made to the law enforcement community and our families. I was a member of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department when Monsignor [then Father] Dooley founded ICPC and our profession has benefitted as ICPC has grown over the years. We appreciate you!

Joseph Akers
Interim Executive Director

This is a great honor for ICPC and is a testament to the selfless actions and time given by our ICPC members in support of our law enforcement community.
